Mercedes has introduced an all-new EV (GLC EQ) version, which could become one of the brand’s most important electric SUVs. Since the GLC combustion version is Mercedes’ best-selling model worldwide, its electric counterpart is expected to play a big role in the premium EV segment, competing directly with the recently launched BMW iX3.
The all-new GLC EQ electric version is the opposite of the Mercedes-Benz GLC ICE (Internal Combustion Engine).
At the front, the GLC EQ introduces a new grille design with chrome framing, optional lighting and integrated pixel lights that create a light show when locking or unlocking. Depending on the market, North American models will get an illuminated ring around the Mercedes star, while EU models comply with local regulations prohibiting illuminated logos. The headlamps come with optional Matrix LED units, which provide more light while using less energy.

In terms of dimensions, the new GLC EQ SUV is 4.85 meters long, 13 cm longer than its combustion equivalent, with an extended wheelbase to improve space for rear passengers. The aerodynamics have also been carefully engineered, with a drag coefficient of 0.26 Cd on the small 19-inch wheels. Larger 21-inch wheels are available but reduce efficiency.
The rear of the GLC EV features a new black panel design connecting the taillights, which may divide opinions. Inside, the cabin is packed with technology and luxury. Options include a large 39-inch Hyperscreen spread across the dashboard, customizable ambient lighting themes, and an electrochromic panoramic glass roof with integrated star-like lighting effects. Materials range from Artico leatherette to microfiber, and there are also options for sport or comfort seats. Mercedes also offers an animal-free steering wheel across all trims.
Practicality has not been neglected. The GLC EQ offers 570 liters of boot space, expandable with foldable rear seats, and additional storage under the floor. Remote seat-folding switches make loading easy.

On the technical side, the GLC EQ comes with a 94 kWh usable battery, a dual-motor all-wheel drive pack, and delivers 0-100 km/h in around 4.5 seconds with a top speed of 210 km/h. Charging is fast thanks to the 800V architecture that supports 330 kW DC fast charging, which charges the battery from 10% to 80% in just 20 minutes. AC charging is offered at 11 kW or optionally at 22 kW.

- AMG Line: Includes chrome accents.
- AMG Line Plus (Night Package): Blacked-out styling, sporty 21-inch wheels, and a long rear spoiler.

The Mercedes stands out from rivals like the BMW iX3, which offers air suspension and rear-axle steering, which increases ride comfort and maneuverability. At higher speeds, the suspension automatically lowers to improve efficiency, with GPS-based control ensuring optimal aerodynamics.
In terms of range, the official WLTP figure is up to 700 km, although real-world expectations are around 550 km. In comparison, the BMW iX3 offers a larger 108 kWh battery and a WLTP range of around 800 km, giving it an efficiency advantage.
Overall, the new Mercedes GLC EQ blends cutting-edge EV tech with Mercedes’ signature luxury and comfort. While the BMW iX3 leads the range, the GLC counters with advanced features, premium interiors and innovative design. Given the GLC’s global popularity in the combustion segment, this model is set to become one of Mercedes’ most important EVs.
