Whether you like EVs or not, electric cars are coming, and they’re coming fast. And we’re not just talking about basic, minimalist EVs built for low running costs and durability anymore. The next wave of EVs is bringing new designs, stronger performance, and better technology than ever before.
So, here’s a clear, straightforward look at the most exciting electric cars launching in India in 2026, plus what each brand is planning.
Tata Motors: Sierra EV and Avinya range

After the massive success of the Nexon EV, Tata is gearing up to further extend its EV dominance.
Tata Sierra EV – Launch: First half of 2026
The Tata Sierra ICE engine variant has been launched. And now it’s the turn of the Tata Sierra EV, a reborn Sierra packed with nostalgia, modern technology and bold design. While the final battery capacity is still under wraps, an all-wheel-drive (AWD) version has been confirmed. Expect it to be priced similar to the Tata BE.6 (Curvv EV), though a slightly more aggressive price tag could make the Sierra EV a success.
Tata Avinya Series – Launch: 2027 to 2028

The Avinya was first showcased years ago, and with delays extending its timeline, Tata has confirmed that the Avinya lineup will finally be launched between 2027 and 2028. The car will bring to life Tata’s new-gen, premium EV philosophy. The Avinya series will be a premium product for Tata’s customers.
VinFast: VF3 – The Urban Mini SUV

Vietnam’s VinFast is officially available in India with its VF6 and VF7 SUVs, and their most interesting product for the Indian market is the small yet nimble VF3.
VinFast VF3 – Launch: Mid-2026
A compact two-door SUV aimed at city buyers, the VF3 will directly rival the MG Comet.
Highlights include:
- 18.6 kWh battery
- A range of around 200 km
- DC fast charging support (a big advantage over the Comet)
Prices are yet to be revealed, but if VinFast prices it smartly, the VF3 could become a favorite product for metro-city commuters.
MG Motor: MG S5 Electric SUV

MG is likely to replace its old ZS EV with the more modern S5 electric SUV, which is already available for sale globally.
MG S5 EV – Launch: Mid-to-late 2026
The S5 promises to be a 4.4-metre long SUV comparable to the Creta EV and Harrier EV
- A real-world range of 400-450 km is expected
- A modern interior and advanced technology will be available
- Competitive price
MG’s parent company SAIC is currently restructuring its India strategy due to stake sale talks, and these business changes could slow things down. But once it arrives, the S5 EV has a strong potential to drive MG’s EV sales.
Mahindra: 3XO-based electric SUV
Mahindra’s EV lineup is rapidly filling up with new cars, and with its new futuristic INGLO-platform EVs (BE.6, XUV.e9, etc.), it offers more affordable EVs and robustness.
Mahindra 3XO EV – Launch: Mid-to-late 2026

Based on the 3XO ICE, the 3XO EV is likely to sit below the XUV400 and target mass buyers. It will come with a smaller battery pack and a more accessible starting price. Mahindra wants to capture a slice of Tata’s dominant sales in the lower EV segment.
One big question remains, though
How will Mahindra position this ICE-converted EV alongside its modern INGLO-based models? We’ll have to wait and see.

LeapMotor: Stellantis’ new EV brand for India
A new EV manufacturer is entering India in 2026, named LeapMotor, which is now backed by Stellantis (the company behind Jeep and Citroen).
LeapMotor T03 – Compact EV hatchback

The LeapMotor T03 will be a direct competitor to the Tiago EV and a compact EV, with the T03 expected to be a budget-friendly, city-focused electric hatch.
LeapMotor C10 – Mid-size electric SUV
This Creta EV and Harrier EV competitor brings a global design, modern cabin and reliable range. Both the cars are expected to launch by 2026, and this entry has been officially confirmed.
It will be interesting to see how the brand positions itself and how Indian buyers react to another newcomer.
