Capricorn 01 Zagato Hypercar Revealed – 900hp Manual V8, RWD Beast by German-Italian Engineering

You may not have heard of the Zagato Hypercar yet, but you’ve certainly heard of the legends associated with it, the Bugatti Veyron, Chiron, Porsche 918 Spyder, McLaren P1, Audi R8, and more. Behind many of these icons is the Capricorn Group, a company that has quietly engineered parts for some of the greatest hypercars ever built. Now, Capricorn has stepped out of the shadows to create its own masterpiece, the Capricorn 01 Zagato.

This hypercar is a collaboration between German engineering and Italian design. It’s not chasing records or top speeds, it’s simply built for the joy of driving. The Capricorn 01 doesn’t rely on oversized wings or flashy aero packages. Instead, it focuses on delivering predictable downforce and balanced stability. As Zagato explains, the goal wasn’t extreme numbers, but pure driving emotion, a refreshing change from the modern hypercar trend of adding excessive power and electronics.

At its heart is a 5.2-liter supercharged Ford V8, modified with a dry sump system, forged internals, and lightweight components. It produces 900 horsepower and 1,000 Nm of torque, which runs all the way to 9,000 RPM. The result? A top speed of 224 mph and 0-100 km/h in less than 3 seconds, depending on how quickly you can change gears. Because this car has no pedals, just a beautifully crafted five-speed manual gearbox with a dog-leg layout (first gear is down and to the left).

Inside, the design is clean, functional, and motorsport-inspired. You get a thin circular steering wheel, physical dials, toggle switches and fixed carbon-fibre seats that bolt directly to the tub. Instead of adjusting your seat, you can move the pedals and steering wheel, and uniquely, the position of the gear lever can also be adjusted by up to 80 mm to suit your driving style. Everything is minimal and driver-focused, pure analogue pleasure in a digital world.

From the carbon chassis and subframes to the carbon-ceramic brakes and wheels, the entire structure is built with one goal in mind: lightness. The car weighs just 1,200 kg, which is about the same as a McLaren Senna and 300 kg lighter than Ferrari’s hybrid monsters. The suspension uses push-rod Bilstein dampers with a lift function on both axles, and the exhaust system exits directly through the glass engine cover, a stunning detail that is protected by a large carbon heat shield.

Production is ultra-exclusive, with only 19 units of the Capricorn 01 Zagato being built, a nod to Zagato’s founding date, April 19, 1919. Each car costs around €2.95 million (₹27 crore approx.) before taxes and comes with a two-year warranty.

But the Capricorn 01 Zagato is not just another luxury toy. It represents a bold statement from Capricorn, a company that is ready to move from making hypercar parts for others to building complete cars themselves. In the future, they plan to produce up to 100 custom-built vehicles per year.
