The Hyundai Azera, also known as the Grandeur GN7, is the brand’s flagship luxury sedan. Its top variant, called the Grandeur Calligraphy, comes with a blend of futuristic design, advanced technology and limousine-like comfort, all for the price of a Toyota Camry.
Design and exterior highlights
The Azera impresses with its bold, modern styling. The large front grille, sleek LED DRLs and flush door handles give it a premium, futuristic look. The car measures over 5 metres in length with a 2.9-metre wheelbase, making it as big as a Mercedes-Benz E-Class. It features frameless doors, soft animations when unlocking and pop-out handles, all of which enhance the luxurious experience. The top Calligraphy trim also gets remote parking assist, which allows you to move the car forward or backward using the key fob.
Engine and Performance
Under the hood of the Azera Hybrid (Grandeur Calligraphy), the hybrid uses a 1.6-liter turbocharged petrol engine mated to an electric motor. It is powered by a 6-speed automatic gearbox that produces 230 PS and 265 Nm of torque. Power delivery is smooth and refined, and the hybrid system ensures excellent fuel efficiency of around 18 km/l. A 3.5-liter V6 petrol engine is also available in global markets, which comes with 300 horsepower and an 8-speed automatic transmission.
Interior and comfort

Step inside the cabin, and you are greeted by a cabin that feels closer to the Genesis than the Hyundai. The dashboard features dual 12.3-inch digital screens, a head-up display, and ambient lighting throughout. The steering wheel also replaces the Hyundai logo with four dots, which represent the “H” in Morse code, which gives a stylish touch.
The interior uses a mix of brown and beige leather, soft-touch materials and metallic accents. Both front seats also offer ventilation, heating, memory function and a zero-gravity mode that evenly distributes body weight for maximum comfort. The rear seats are provided with Bose mode controls, heated functions and powered sunblinds. It also gets a Bose sound system, panoramic sunroof and a UV sterilizing wireless charger for added luxury.
Technology and features
The Azera is packed with technology. It includes a 360° camera, blind-view monitor, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist and automatic parking. The infotainment system supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with built-in navigation that works flawlessly in markets like Korea. The car also has a built-in dash cam and supports in-car payment for tolls and parking (Korea only), which we may see in India in the future.
Ride and driving experience
Speaking of driving, on the road, the Azera Hybrid offers an incredibly smooth and quiet experience. The suspension offers a comfortable ride, and cabin insulation keeps out almost all external noise. The steering is light and precise, making this large sedan surprisingly easy to drive. The car’s predictive gear-shifting system, coupled with navigation data, ensures optimal performance and efficiency on every drive.
Safety and build quality
Hyundai has equipped the Azera with multiple airbags, including knee airbags, rear cross-traffic alert and adaptive headlights. The build quality feels solid and premium, matching and even rivaling luxury European sedans.

Verdict
The Hyundai Azera (Grandeur) offers E-class comfort and technology at a fraction of the price. With its pure hybrid powertrain, advanced features and luxurious interior, it proves that Hyundai can compete with the best in the luxury sedan segment. Unfortunately, the Azera is not available in India (has not been launched), but if it were, it would easily be one of the most valuable luxury sedans in the market.
