The 2025 Kawasaki Versys-X 300 returns to India after almost five years, but it hasn’t changed much since its last appearance. It still has the same high-revving 296 cc parallel-twin engine, tall ADV design, and spoked wheels (19-inch front and 17-inch rear). The only updates are two new color options and compliance with the latest emissions standards.

While it continues to look purposeful with its slim adventure styling and solid build quality, the Versys-X 300 now feels dated in the fast-growing ADV segment. Rivals like the KTM 390 Adventure, Royal Enfield Himalayan 450, and Honda NX500 offer more power, features, and technology at a lower price. In comparison, the Kawasaki Versys lacks essentials like a TFT display, ride modes, traction control, switchable ABS, or standard accessories like crash guards and handguards.

The riding posture is comfortable and upright, making it suitable for average and tall riders. At 6 feet tall, the rider sits naturally, while shorter riders around 5’7″ can also handle the height well. However, the standing ergonomics aren’t ideal, the narrow footpegs dig into the sole, and taller riders may find it less comfortable for off-roading. The seat is firm yet supportive, and Kawasaki offers a better padded accessory seat for ₹20,000. The fixed windscreen causes wind noise and buffing at higher speeds, especially for taller riders.

The Versys-X 300 still shines. Its twin-cylinder engine feels lively above 6,000 rpm and pulls cleanly up to its 12,500 rpm redline. It’s smooth and refined compared to single-cylinder rivals but lacks low-end torque. You’ll need to shift frequently and ride in lower gears to keep it exciting. The 0-100 km/h sprint takes around 7.5 seconds, which puts it in line with other 300cc bikes. But it’s slower than the newer 400–450cc models. Cruising at 100 km/h keeps the engine at around 7,000 rpm, and while not entirely smooth, it feels engaging.

Fuel efficiency is around 25 km/l in the city and 27 km/l on the highway, with the 17-litre tank giving a range of around 400 km. Heat management is good, and you won’t face any problems unless you’re wearing shorts.

On the road, the Versus offers a planted and confident feel. The 41 mm telescopic fork and preload-adjustable rear monoshock handle well-paved roads with ease. However, the suspension travel (130 mm The front suspension is limited (148mm at the front, 148mm at the rear), making it less capable on rough roads. The front fork is soft and bottoms out over deep potholes. While the handling is sharp and enjoyable on tarmac, off-road performance is mediocre. The ABS feels clunky, and the spoked wheels aren’t tubeless – a disadvantage for touring riders.

Overall, the Versys-X 300 is a simple and reliable Japanese tourer ideal for highway use. Despite its lower price thanks to the GST reduction, it still feels dated and overpriced compared to modern competitors. If you value Kawasaki’s reliability, parallel-twin refinement and road-biased touring comfort, it’s a solid option. But for most adventure riders, the KTM 390 Adventure X, Royal Enfield Himalayan 450, or the upcoming CFMoto 450 offer much better value and features.
