Lotus Emeya R India Review – Luxury Electric 918hp Missile Supercar

The Lotus Emeya R is the second electric car from the Lotus brand in India, designed to compete with the Porsche Taycan and Mercedes-Benz EQS. It combines the best of both worlds with supercar-like performance, luxury features and futuristic styling.

Finished in a striking Stellar Black colour, the Emeya R looks like Batman’s Batmobile. It features katana-shaped LED DRLs, active aero flaps, sleek 22-inch aero-optimized wheels and a full-width LED light bar at the rear. A carbon fibre diffuser and active spoiler add drama, making this electric GT a true head-turner and eye-catching from every angle.

Inside, the cabin feels futuristic yet minimalist. The highlight is a 15-inch touchscreen that controls almost everything from door and spoiler settings to massaging seats and AC vents. Automatic doors, a glass roof with customizable opacity panels and a 23-speaker KEF audio system add to the wow factor. The quality is top-notch, with carbon fiber finishes, high-grade leather seats, heating, ventilation and excellent massage functions. The rear seats, especially with the optional Executive Pack, offer two plush chairs, a central tablet to control all functions and a host of comfort features.

Practicality has not been neglected. The Emeya offers 428L of boot space and 31L of cargo space, mostly for charging cables. But the real talking point is the performance. Powered by a 102 kWh battery pack with dual motors, it produces a massive 918 hp and 985 Nm. 0-100 km/h is reached in less than 3 seconds with launch control. Modes like Tour, Sport, Track, and Individual adjust the suspension, steering, and performance to suit your needs. Sport mode lowers the car, stiffens the suspension, and unleashes wild acceleration. However, grip is a concern with the standard Michelin tires, so opting for Pirelli P Zero tires is highly recommended.

Despite its size and weight, the Emeya handles well thanks to its air suspension, rear-wheel steering, and active roll stabilization system. The ride quality is surprisingly comfortable even with the 22-inch wheels. The regenerative braking system is available in four levels, and the steel brakes feel natural and progressive. Charging takes about 15 hours on a 7.4 kW AC charger, 10 hours on an 11 kW AC charger, and just 35 minutes (10-80%) on a 150 kW DC fast charger. On a full charge, you can expect a real-world range of around 380 km, though enthusiastic driving will reduce this significantly.

At ₹2.95 crore (pre-options), the Lotus Emeya R competes with high-performance EVs like the Porsche Taycan Turbo and super SUVs in India. It’s not as agile as a traditional Lotus, and its weight can be felt in tight corners, but it balances great performance, luxury and a sleek design like few others. If the Emeya R feels too extreme, the Emeya S offers a more manageable 612 hp, better range and almost the same luxury at a lower price.
