Maruti Suzuki Dzire is one of the best selling sedan cars in India.
We have had this car for the past 6 months, I would like to share my real ownership experience with you, good parts, not so good parts, and also discuss the mileage we got in real life.
Maruti Dzire Looks & Design
The Dzire has been in the Indian market for many years, and this is its fourth generation model. Compared to the first generation, the design is now more balanced, stylish and sedan-like.
- You get LED lights at the front and rear with DRLs.
- The dual-tone alloys add to the premium look.
- In short, it feels like a proper sedan that feels comfortable both in the city and on the highway.
Its light steering and compact size make it easy to drive in the city, while on the highway it feels stable and confident. I drove it for long distances, and it performed really well.
Cabin & Comfort (Interior)

Inside, the cabin feels more premium than before. The dual-tone theme used, the flat-bottom steering wheel with controls, automatic AC and the overall finish give it a modern feel.
However, it also has two drawbacks:
- There is no central armrest for the driver.
- Even on the top variant, the seats are fabric, and in a light cream shade, which gets dirty quickly.
- The seat cushions could have been better for long drives (aftermarket covers with extra padding could help).
In terms of space, it is impressive. Four people can sit comfortably. Three in the back is a bit tight but manageable for short journeys. This is one of the reasons why many families still choose the Dzire as their sedan.
Features & Technology
This generation Dzire has features we never expected in this segment, which is a good move.
- 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system (crisp and responsive)
- Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay
- Wireless charging
- 360° camera (very helpful in tight city spaces)
- Electric sunroof
Honestly, Maruti has given a lot of modern touches here.
Dzire Safety
Maruti has always carried the “unsafe” tag, but the new Dzire breaks that image.
- It has received a 5-star rating in both Global NCAP and Bharat NCAP.
- Different variants come with 6 airbags, ESC, seatbelt pretensioners, ISOFIX child seat mounts.
So, in terms of safety, the Dzire definitely gives you peace of mind that your car and you are safe.
Engine & Performance
Now, let’s talk about the engine, it has been downgraded a bit. The new Dzire gets a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder Z12E petrol engine, unlike the old 4-cylinder unit.
- There is a 3-cylinder engine, unlike the old 4-cylinder unit.
- The old engine was simple and strong, this one feels a little less powerful and less fun to drive.
- Works well in the new Swift (a lighter car), but feels a little sluggish in the Dzire.
There are two transmission options:
- 5-speed manual – makes the drive a little more engaging.
- 5-speed AMT – suitable for comfortable, hassle-free city driving.
Mileage (Real Life)
Maruti Dzire shines in its fuel efficiency department.
The company claims a mileage of 25+ km/l (under ideal conditions).
In real world, Maruti Dzire mileage is around 16–17 km/l in the city and 18–20 km/l on the highway, and these mileage figures depend on the driving conditions and how the driver drives,
- 16–17 kmpl in city
- 18–20 kmpl on highways
I personally got a mileage of 17–18 km/l in a trip between the two cities, covering a distance of 530 km on a single tank.
So yes, it can be said that it is still one of the most fuel-efficient sedans in India.
Variants of Maruti Dzire
The Dzire comes in 4 main variants, LXI, VXI, ZXI and ZXI Plus, with Manual, AMT and CNG options, and comes in a total of 9 combinations.
Final Verdict – for my opinion
After 6 months of driving, here’s what I’ve learned.
- The Dzire isn’t for thrill seekers.
- It’s all about practicality, reliability, fuel efficiency and ease of ownership.
- It’s modern, feature-packed and safe.
Cons: Average plastics, seat quality and not-so-exciting engine.
But for many Indian buyers, the positive aspects are more important, so cheap to run, low maintenance, excellent mileage and family-friendly.
Could be a good option for first-time car buyers or families looking for a value sedan.
